Research Unit

Human Nutrition Research Unit (HNRU)

The HNRU is a state of the art research and training facility that facilitates and supports nutrition research in Western Canada.

All study visits will be conducted in rooms available at the Unit, including the measurements of your blood pressure, weight, height, and body circumferences, blood draw, and body composition analysis.

Dual X-Ray Absorptiometry (DXA)

DXA provides precise measurement of bone density, lean mass, and body fat. This test is non-invasive, painless, and completed in approximately 15 minutes. The amount of radiation an individual is exposed to during a DXA scan is equivalent to that of a cross country flight. During the study period, you will have to undergo one DXA scan.

Research Kitchen

The HNRU houses a research kitchen which allows for the preparation of the NutrIMM Study Menu.  Trained personnel from our research team will cook your meals following strict food safety protocols.
